Last Post of EIR

Time passes really fast, it is the end of EIR lesson. At my last post I would like to talk about how I feel towards this subject.

EIR is like a coffee without sugar. Please don’t get me wrong and think that EIR is a boring and dull subject. Continue to listen to my explanation…

So why do I say it is like a coffee with sugar? As everyone knows, coffee is bitter if you do not add anything. Therefore, as the drinker of the coffee, it is your responsibility to add sugar or creamer to the coffee to make it taste better or sweeter. Similarly, for EIR, it is the student’s responsibility to monitor their own work so that through the process they will be able to learn something and at the end of the process they will be able to taste the fruit of their victory.
The coffee will always be bitter and it taste even worse if it were left there to be cooled down for a long time.   Similarly, if the student do not have self-discipline and do their work, they will not be able learn anything out from it.

Before I put a full stop to the end of post, I would like to add my last sentence here.
There is no end to learning, there are so many things for us to explore and for us to figure out. Therefore, we should not stop here and should continue moving forward to keep learning new things and live our life to the fullest.

BYE PEOPLE!!! = )

JAPAN TRIP CONT......

Evening view

Before going to Hokkaido, I went to a resort in Japan. As you can see, there are many people just like me, ‘staying’ in the resort. There are not many facilities in the resort. However, thinking that Hokkaido would be fun, I make my way there. Good thing that Second Life is virtual, meaning that travelling around would be convenient as it will only take me split second.

People at the resort

Upon reaching there, it was around night time. Again, nothing is special there, I could only see patches of snow around and a few cute snowmen. Again I continued walking to explore the place.

SNOWS

I found one of my favorite dish TAKO balls!! I am so excited; unfortunately I cannot buy it as I do not have the ‘cash’.

TAKO - MY FAV!!! = )

After around one hours of walking, I realized that other than the patches of snow and a few shops there, there were not a single soul; probably it is night time and everyone has gone to sleep.

The only thing that I like the most will be the scenery at night. The sky was covered with small brightly-lit stars, making it seems like a romantic and peaceful place.

BEAUTIFUL SCENERY TO END THE DAY = )

To conclude, I think that Secondlife although is convenient, it does have something different from real life. The thing is that what I see and touch in Secondlife are virtual, therefore, I will not have the feel that I am in Hokkaido. There were lack of facilities and the ‘atmosphere’ is just not there. However, Secondlife can still satisfy some of the basic satisfaction of unable to be at the place you wanted to go.

DREAM HOLIDAY !!

I know it has been long since i last blogged. Well, it doesn't matter. Today, I will be blogging about the website which showcase my Dream holiday place.

The multimedia website that showcases my Dream holiday place will be shown below:

Below is the front page of the website. As you can see, it is Japan. There are so many places in Japan and the one I would dream to go will be Hokkaido.

Yokoso Japan Tour

Why would I choose Hokkaido? Hokkaido, situated near Pacific Ocean is a place in Japan in which the seafood are the most famous for their freshness as well as their taste. Being a seafood lover, I would like to experience it myself!

I have used two criteria to evaluate the multi-media website that I had chosen to showcase my Dream holiday.

The first criteria will be presentation and arrangements of the website. The website is relatively well-organized with clear headings such as home, about our tours, departure from, about us, reservations, annual plan and FAQ. The text are easy to read and well-written in simple and clear language. Appropriate advertisements of the place of interest in Japan are shown to attract people from all walks of life who wish to tour in certain part of Japan. Like most multimedia website would have, this website has moving images of different places of interest. Many would think that website with moving images might be a distraction from their initial purpose of visiting the website (obtain information). However, this is not true. For multimedia website like the one I am using now, the moving image serve as an attraction to the users to be able to make a wise choice of their place of interest in Japan.

The second criteria that I am using will be accuracy. This is also an important criterion as well. Why do I say so? When you want to go on a tour, would you wish that the website in which the information you get from is a scam? Accuracy therefore plays an important part in evaluating this website. Club Tourism International Inc. is one of the leading travel agencies in Japan, boasting its successful achievement in the field of tourism for 30 years. Every year, 4 million customers participated in its domestic and overseas tours year and more than 300 buses run every day for the domestic tours. To further substantiate their point, they also have travel magazine "Tabi no Tomo" delivered monthly to their members with the circulation of three million, the largest number of this kind in Japan. Furthermore, contact numbers are given for people with queries regarding the package tour.

Stay tuned to continue knowing my Japan 'trip' in Secondlife!

Tutorial 7 Cont...

The blog that I am commenting today will be the blog done by Serene. She has been an elder sister to me and she is a professional in blog making. She was the one who taught me how to make blog skins and certain add-ons in the blog. Her EIR blog skin is basically made up of small heart-shaped. So what is so special about her blog that make her unique? Well, she uses her own picture as the header which many of the blogs mainly use random pictures taken from the web.
Overall I think that her blog is well maintained and well designed. = )

Tutorial 7

Hello Everyone, I know it has been long since I posted. Well, I should post some of the activity I had done in my tutorial as well as some learning points.
Forming a group of 5, my group was to evaluate stomp based on the criteria of currency and accessibility.

I shall start off by explaining the two criteria to evaluate stomp as required.

Currency refers to whether the website provides up-to-date information, the frequency of the update, when the information was updated and when the data is gathered.

On the other hand, accessibility refers number and sizes of images and existence of thumbnails. It also refers to the reliability of access and the restriction level of access to the website.

Stomp is a website whereby public are free to make random post. However, to comment on the particular post, he/she will have to register in stomp.
From this activity, I learnt the different criteria used to access an internet resource. The above two mentioned are 2 of the criteria taught to us.

To recap my research topic is: Discuss the impact of Financial Crisis on spending behavior and consumer market
There are some features of citizen journalism which I will only point some of it only.
Citizen journalism is based on unprofessional views by the public. This is one feature that I would like to apply differently if I were to create my own version of stomp. As my topic is related to issue regarding the global economy I would like my comments to be made my professionals. It may sound unfair to others but such global and important issue, I would prefer more professional views as whatever they have commented must have been after much analysis and thoughts.
To facilitate thinking and educational purposes, I will try to include certain sub-headings to direct them to the certain link that users wanted. I would also try to include some recent articles and relevant posts to aid in their learning. After a certain number of days, I will make a final conclusion or a summary of the particular information to educate readers on a certain learning points.

Tutorial 6

Hello people, it has been 2 weeks since i last blogged. Well, the reason for not blogging the past few weeks are mainly due to projects, homework and projects.

Today I am going to talk about tutorial 6 which is about invisible web.

Invisible web, also known as deep web or dark matter are a collection of information stored in the form of data. There is a technical limitation such that general purpose search engines cannot and will not add to their indices of web pages.

The first search database used is Ebsohost.

Unlike other search engines, the search results have a gauge to show the relevancy of the results. This will aid people in finding more useful information they need.

However, there is a disadvantage as the snippets are too short and they did not provide enough information or rather did not really provide the gist of the containing information. Users will have a hard time to decide whether the particular search result is useful or not. Decision cannot be made purely based on the relevance gauge bar.

Relevant information that I found is under the link:

I choose Factiva as my 2nd database.

Search results are not arranged in order, and duplicate results will be shown unless stated that duplicate results are omitted. The search results are totally different from what I found in the EbscoHost. This is due to the fact that I can no longer type the same thing as what I had keyed in into the search box of Factiva. There is a certain restriction in the number of words that I typed in. The longer the words, the lesser chance that the research database will generate information base on the search query.

As compared to search engines, meta-search or subject directory, I cannot really decide which is more effective. The effectiveness of each facility mainly depend on the users. If they are searching a familiar topic, search engine and meta-search will serve as more effective. For unfamiliar topic, subject directory should be used to browse for relevant links. However, if the user wants specialised information, then invisible web will be a better choice over the other search facilities.

I may use invisible web in my Diploma in Accounting and Finance as I will want to get more specialised information. however, a combination of search facilities should be used to cover a large proportion of relevant web pages.

Well, thats all for tutorial 6. Do stay closed to my updates as I will soon blog about Tutorial 7 in a few days time. = )

Practical 4 & 5

Difference: Metal-search engine is more effective in helping me find the resources related to my research topic.

Metal-search engine provides more relevant information as compared to subject directory. Despite the fact that metal-search engine is time-consuming but the size of information provided is quite small, which makes it easier for researcher to find relevant information for researcher to make correct decision.

Cover of Metal-crawler

Yahoo directory has a topic category in which researcher can click to narrow down the information. However, if we do not know the category of the topic and search normally, the information provided will be quite irrelevant.

Yahoo Directory

Different categories available

Similarities: Both are search engines which serve different purposes to meet the required needs of the researchers.

Whichever search engines used depend on the researcher. Both are useful in a certain way.

LEARNING POINT

By using different search facilities, I will be exposed to the different features of the search facilities. It will aid me in researching as I will be able to make use of what I had learnt of the different search facilities (purpose, pros and cons). I will be able to make full use of the search facilities.

By using site feeds, I am able link to other people’s blog. Information update my other people’s blog will be updated instantly. With site feeds, information can be categorized in a more organized way.
